It is said: The ‘good artist’ “copies” and the ‘great artist’ “steals”.
I say:
The good artist “copies”(imitates), the great artist “steals”(is inspired by) but the ‘Timeless Artist’ is the one who is copied and who inspires.
I’m writing this because to my annoyance my Dark Prince Chair was imitated. Poorly …and no credit given, of course.
DARK PRINCE CHAIR (Dirk Marwig, 2009)
-This chair was designed, constructed and finished by me (Dirk Marwig) in West Vancouver, Canada 2009. Dimensions: Total height: 100 cm , Seat height: 45 cm Width: 44.5 cm Total depth: 61 cm , Seat depth: 43 cm Construction: Recycled solid Walnut and Cherry wooden floor boards(1 inch thick),wooden dowels and biscuits, wood glue(no screws or nails) Color: Natural light walnut and reddish cherry Finish: Hand rubbed Danish oil. Extras: Supports up to 300 kg of dead weight (proven, with a really fat guy of same weight sitting on it!) Extremely comfortable.
The only wooden chair in the WORLD with this DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION (according to thorough research) -signed and dated, with the title(engraved) on the base (bottom) of chair.
I found this photo of “Das Unstabile Haus”(The Unstable House) from 1993 in an envelope today(August 17th 2018). Another forgotten drawing. To date it is in the collection of Klaus Fischer in Frankfurt, Germany.
I had the photo of my object (long gone and forgotten) enlarged for personal reference ($1200)… Still people don’t get it! (almost 20 years after it’s creation). I really don’t know why the world does not “get it”. -It gives CREDIT to ‘human intelligence’ and EMPATHY …….. and to LOVE. ——– Would you really want harm another HUMAN or LIVING CREATURE? Think about that before ” YOU PULL THAT TRIGGER” .
FLORIDA 135 SPECIAL GUN (Plexi-glas object with 2 bullets, 20cm x 29.5cm x 4.3cm, Dirk Marwig, Madrid 1998)
8 Outside -photographed outside-(Oil on canvas, 122cm x 91.5cm, Dirk Marwig 2011)
-This was line-colour-perception experiment: Eight focal points outside the canvas coming from all 4 sides(2 focal points on each side). All the coloured lines that come from(or go to) the 8 focal points are ‘mirrored’ through the centre again then painted (again) in the complementary colours.
The 4 colours(blue, red, green and yellow) colours are pure(not mixed)just painted in very thin layers on top of each other. The white lines just highlight the shape created through multiple repetition. It’s hung askew but it doesn’t feel that way.
